Painted Face
New media application

The new media application Painted Face by Samson Young and Henry Chu deconstructs and reinvents the music of Cantonese opera. Its interactive nature not only allows the audience to manipulate the conventional musical structure of Cantonese opera through a computerised visual interface, but also facilitates the experience of inventing and becoming immersed in new sonic ambiences. With a single handheld device as the instrument, Painted Face can be seen as an automatic music generator that digitalises and transfers audio-visual elements of traditional live performances into a new mode of presentation.

New media application will be available for free download on iTunes on 18 January 2012.
